Please see below the available committee roles for the 2023-2024 year! Role descriptions are available for each, and if you have questions please reach out to the contact provided within the descriptions.

Application Form – Due September 15th
The secretary assists with the internal organisation of the UKPN. They facilitate UKPN committee meetings and may help field or direct enquiries to the UKPN from members of the public or potential members to the right team. Primary responsibilities are: timetabling of committee meetings, note-taking during meetings and circulation of meeting agenda/notes. Can probably also be combined with another role if experienced.
The UKPN Treasurer is the main office responsible for the UKPN’s finances, and is responsible for facilitating UKPN spending to support its aims. The successful candidate will be organised, and able to use and develop financial processes to effectively manage the UKPN’s finances, working closely with the president team to strategically allocate budgets between projects. The workload is fairly low, under 1 hour a week, it is fairly constant throughout the year.
EDI Officer – Role Description
The EDI officers work together to promote equality, diversity and inclusion within the UKPN and the wider UK Polar Science community. They work with and advise the rest of the UKPN committee on making UKPN events and initiatives more accessible and inclusive.
Outreach Officer (Events) – Role Description
The Outreach Officer (Events and Festivals) is responsible for planning and delivering public facing events on behalf of the UK Polar Network. If you are a highly organised individual with an interest in working with volunteers and sharing polar science with the public, then this role is for you! The workload is typically heightened once every three months in line with event planning timelines and there are opportunities to travel within the UK.
International Collaboration Officer – Role Description
The International Collaboration Officer is the primary focal point for working with other APECS National Committees. This role allows the Officer a lot of ownership over the collaboration projects pursued. The successful candidate should enjoy working with people from around the world, and experience of small scale project management would be advantageous.
Social Media Officer – Role Description
The social media team is responsible for monitoring and updating the social media platforms (Twitter, Instagram and Facebook) of the UKPN. The team works in close association with UKPN working groups to promote our activities and share polar-related opportunities to our membership base. If you’re a creative person who enjoys engaging with all aspects of polar science this is the role for you!
The webmaster will work in conjunction with the social media team to maintain our wordpress site. This will involve the uploading of event summaries, blogs and committee updates. Other committee members will have administrative access to the WordPress site, but major changes will be run past the webmaster.
Education Officer – Role Description
The Education Officer role supports the UKPN’s long term educational projects including the Antarctic Flag project, our pen pals scheme, and school visits. If you have an interest in creative educational activities and are an effective communicator, this role could be for you!
