I am finishing my PhD in environmental microbiology at Northumbria University. Specifically, I am interested in studying microbial diversity within a variety of polar habitats, from glacial ice to Antarctic subglacial systems, and trying to understand potential adaptations that facilitate their persistence.
I completed my undergrad at Durham University in 2023 before moving to Northumbria University, where I had my first experiences studying polar environments. I am lucky enough to have been into the field on Svalbard, and have campaigns planned for 2027. Through my PhD, I have collaborated across disciplines and nations, and presented my work internationally, developing valued connections and networks with scientists of various career stages. This multi-national aspect of science is what drew me to the role as International Collaboration Officer, and I hope to further build upon the great work of the UKPN.
Beyond the science, I enjoy hiking and any sport I can get involved in.
