Background:

I am a second year PhD student based at the British Antarctic Survey and registered with the University of East Anglia. My project focuses on the role of Black Carbon in the Southern Ocean carbon cycle. This type of organic carbon is formed via incomplete combustion, by either natural or man-made sources. However, its sources, distribution and fate in the Southern Ocean is largely unknown.

I completed an integrated master’s degree in marine biology at the University of St Andrews in 2024. During my time there, I was lucky enough to win the R&A international scholarship, which funded a self-created project; “Operation Antarctica”. Over a period of 9 months, I spent time with Antarctic pollution groups in Uruguay and Chile, focusing on plastic debris and invasive species. Through this, I developed many valuable connections and friendships, whom I keep in contact with to this day! I am passionate about fostering international collaborations with other ECR networks, and hope to strengthen links we have with existing partnerships through my role as international collaboration officer.

Outside of my research, I enjoy hiking, bouldering, and playing any team sport that is outdoors!
