My fascination with polar ecosystems didn’t come from a single moment, it’s grown steadily over the years. One memory that stands out is watching “March of the Penguins” as a child; it sparked a curiosity about polar life that never really left me. Since then, I’ve kept following the work and stories shared by researchers at Antarctic stations.
I’ve spent the past few years working with several research groups across a range of ecosystems as a lab technician and fieldworker at the University of Oxford. It was during my MSc in Marine Ecosystem Management at the University of St Andrews, though, that things really took shape: a module in polar ecology deepened an interest that has stayed with me ever since. I now want to actively contribute to the polar research community, rather than simply follow its work from the sidelines.
I care deeply about equality, diversity and inclusion, and believe that everyone should feel respected, valued and that they belong in the workplaces and communities of which they are part. I’m excited to help the network grow as an inclusive and welcoming space, and to support the next generation of polar researchers.
