Background:

Robyn has recently completed her MSc (research) at the University of Sheffield in Polar and Alpine Change, focusing her dissertation on the flow evolution of mid-latitude debris-covered glaciers on Mars. She was also fortunate enough to work as a research assistant cross-checking data on the NERC funded PalGlac project. She previously attended the University of Derby, completing a BSc in Geology, focusing on the glacial reconstruction of the Younger Dryas event at Cwm Tryfan in Snowdonia National Park. Robyn has extensive experience in the field having completed geological, hydrological and geomorphological fieldwork in Tenerife, the Pyrenees, Lake District, Wales and Western Greenland. Although her most recent academic research has been predominantly computer based, fieldwork is where her heart lies.

Outside of academia, Robyn is a competitive ice swimmer, having competed for Team Great Britain at the European and World Championships. Her most recent ice adventure was on an expedition to Svalbard, where she swam in the freezing waters with walruses, raising money for a charity very close to her heart – OCD UK. She is an avid lacrosse player, hiker, runner and overall outdoorsy person, who is working towards a career combining her love for polar science and ice swimming.

Her next steps involve a move to (the much hotter, non-glaciated) Australia, where she intends to work in the Hydrogeology industry, in the hopes of one day returning to the ice both as an athlete and a researcher, preferably much further north!
