Background:

I am currently a teacher of science and geography at a secondary school in Rochdale, Greater Manchester.  I have always been obsessed with the polar regions- particularly with the flora and fauna as well as the stories of famous explorers.

Last year I set up a polar group for our pupils where we learnt how to preserve food in the polar regions, discovered more about how current researchers spend their time in Antarctica and investigated how a change in pH can impact the Southern Ocean.  Last year I was also lucky enough to visit Turku in Finland which, although not quite in the Arctic circle, it was further north than Rochdale and has further cemented my dream of one day getting even closer to the north or south poles.
