The UKPN Education & Outreach working group exists to promote the inclusion of polar research in school curricula and to organise events that allow pupils and students to learn more about life and research in polar regions, as well as the careers open to school leavers in similar fields. We organise for our members and partners to visit schools across the UK to give assemblies, workshops and career guidance. All forms of science, technology, engineering and mathematics are needed for Polar research, so we aim to enthuse young people about them all. We work with schools that are in economically deprived areas and make sure to highlight that anybody can become a Polar scientist.
The Education & Outreach group organises:
- School Visits
- Polar Pen Pal scheme
- Antarctic Flag competition for Antarctica Day (annual)
- Festival events
