Background:
I am currently a second year PhD student at the University of Brighton. My project aims to reconstruct the deglaciation of the Late Weichselian Fennoscandian Ice Sheet (FIS) across the Kola Peninsula, northwest Arctic Russia. The pattern, style, and timing of deglaciation across this region during the Last Glacial-Interglacial Transition (LGIT; c. 20-10 ka) is poorly understood – in particular, the position of the Younger Dryas (c. 12.9-11.7 ka) cold stadial ice margin is unclear. Reconstructing the deglaciation of the FIS on the Kola Peninsula will provide insight into ice sheet dynamics and retreat processes during the LGIT and much needed empirical data for constraining computer models of FIS deglaciation.
