Background:

I have been teaching Geography in secondary schools for over 15 years, and currently teach at St Mary’s School in Gerrards Cross, an all-girls school in Buckinghamshire. I completed my BSc Physical Geography at the University of Reading where the study of Cold Environments made up a large part of my degree. Through my job I have been extremely lucky to have taken many of my GCSE and A Level students to Iceland over the years as well as personal trips to Tromsø and Saariselkä with my young family. There is something so very special about being in the Arctic, so much so that we keep going back! At school I absolutely love teaching about the Poles and cold environments as they always evoke such awe and wonder from my students. I got involved with the UK Polar Network through their outreach projects – My students loved learning about Antarctica Day & the creating Antarctica Flags and were amazed to see their design make it all the way to Antarctica. I joined the committee to help expand their work further as I have seen first-hand the impact it can have on students inspiring them to go on to study polar sciences.
