Louise Mercer is a PhD Student at Northumbria University, having previously studied a BSc (Hons) ecological and environmental science at the University of Edinburgh and a master’s in environmental science at the University of Utah. Louises research looks at the use of environmental community-based monitoring (CBM) approaches in the Canadian Arctic. Louise works to ensure her research process is inclusive of Indigenous community members in all aspects of the research process from data collection to decision-making. Currently, she supports the Transdisciplinary Nuna project (https://www.cinuk.org/projects/nuna/) and an Indigenous-Led CBM project funded by the Northern Contaminants Program. Both projects are researching environmental contaminants from short- and long-range sources in Tuktoyaktuk, Inuvialuit Settlement Region. When she is not in the Arctic or on her laptop, Louise loves fell running with her border collie pup!
